WSHS Varsity vs. West Potomac

The Low Down

The Spartans played a tough game against West Potomac, coming up just short in a 40–47 loss. Things started on a high note for the Spartans, scoring a touchdown on the first play on their first offensive drive. The Spartans offense shined in the first half, putting up 27 points and scoring on nearly every drive.  Quarterback Peter Muskett scored on three occasions in the first half, twice rushing and once on a deep pass to wide receiver Najee Green.

Down 27-34 at halftime, the Spartans defense started off strong, stalling the Wolverines on their first four offensive drives. Late in the 4th, Muskett was injured and was out for the rest of the game. With backup Jake Herzog also out with an injury from the previous week, Samer Ahmed stepped into the game to play quarterback. Ahmed was only on the field for one full offensive drive and was able to move the team down the field before running out of downs. An evenly scored second half ended with a 40–47 loss for the Spartans. Injuries and unfortunate turnovers didn’t help the Spartans this game.

Summary

The Spartans suffered greatly from losing multiple players, including Muskett, and running back Derrick Jenkins early in the game. The Spartans also had a few unfortunate turnovers. The Spartans lost one fumble and threw an interception, but neither led to points for the Wolverines. However, the Wolverines did block a punt and recover the ball from a muffed punt, which both led the touchdowns.

All in all, the Spartans had a good game, but suffered from some unfortunate injuries and unlucky plays.
