WSHS Varsity vs. Lake Braddock

Homecoming 2016

The Spartans played the Lake Braddock Bruins for their 2016 Homecoming game, and left the night with another loss. Quarterback Peter Muskett made his return to the field after missing last week’s game against TC Williams. The high-powered rushing attack of the Bruins offense gave them an early lead, and they ran away with the game from there.

The Bruins received the opening kickoff and worked the ball down the field to score a touchdown. The Spartans came back and scored a touchdown (by Talon Riesbeck) of their own in spectacular fashion, scoring on a one-play drive off of an expertly executed trick play. But the Bruins answered with their own one-play drive by scoring on a nearly 70-yard rushing play. Down 7–14, the Spartans gave up an unfortunate sack that gave the Bruins a safety, and another two points to extend their lead. Also gaining possession of the ball after the safety, the Bruins were able to score another touchdown to go up 7–23 over the Spartans. The Spartans moved the ball very well on their next drive, going nearly the entire length of the field, and finished the drive with a field goal.

On their next possession, wide receiver Daniel Adu broke away for an impressive run down the field that put the Spartans in great field position. However, a few plays later the Bruin defense was able to intercept a pass.

The Spartans entered the second half down by 13 points and were unable to close the scoring gap. The Spartans started the half with the ball but were forced to punt, which allowed the Bruins offense to score another touchdown. The Bruins would score again later, giving them a 10-37 lead over the Spartans. On the next Spartan drive, the Spartans were forced to punt, but were able to retain possession after the Bruins muffed the punt. This allowed the Spartans to score another touchdown when Adu received a great pass from quarterback Peter Muskett in the endzone. The Bruin offense was able to score again to increase their lead to 17–44, which would be the final score of the game.
