WSHS Varsity vs. Woodson

Game Overview

The Spartans played their last regular season home game against the Woodson Cavaliers and suffered another disappointing loss. The Spartans fell to the Cavaliers after a final score of 23–34.

The Cavaliers were able to take the ball down the field to the endzone on the opening drive and came away with a 0–6 lead over the Spartans. The Spartans scored a field goal on the next drive to close the scoring gap. On the ensuing drive, the Cavaliers quarterback was able to break the pocket and scramble for a touchdown to make the score 3–13. The Cavaliers would score once more on their next drive to increase their lead. After a few non-scoring drives, the Spartans fired back with a rushing touchdown from halfback Dalton Campos. But the excitement from the Spartans touchdown was short-lived, as the Cavaliers would score again right before halftime. The Spartans ended the first half down by 17 points, but would receive the halftime kickoff.

The Spartans took advantage of the first possession of the second-half and were able to score a touchdown to make the score 17-27. The next few drives ended in the offense punting. The Cavaliers then scored for their final time to regain their 17-point lead that they entered the half with. Later in the fourth quarter, the Spartans would fumble the football, but were able to recover after losing almost 10 yards on the play. The Spartans quickly made up for it when quarterback Peter Muskett found wide receiver Daniel Adu open in the endzone and gave the Spartans six more points. After a failed attempt at a two-point conversion, the Spartans attempted an onside kick, but were unable to recover. The Cavaliers would run out the clock to secure a 23–34 victory.

The Spartans have one more game this regular season. The team will travel to face the Annandale Atoms next week in the last game of the regular season.
